One of India’s leading wind energy solutions provider, Suzlon Energy,
has announced that it has received a new order to set up projects
across several states in India. Suzlon Energy announced on
Wednesday that it received orders to set up 105 MW of wind energy
capacity across five states in western and southern India.
The orders
have been placed by small- and medium-sized enterprises and
government-owned companies, and are expected to be built in Andhra
Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu. The company will install 50 wind turbines of the S9X product suite —
which includes turbines with hub heights of 90 meters and 120 meters.
Suzlon stated in its press release that several of these orders have
been placed by industries looking to replace grid electricity with
captive power generation, enabling them to freeze the cost of power for
the long-term.
Suzlon Energy, which once used to be the undisputed leader in the
India wind energy market, has lost significant share to other companies,
including Gamesa and Inox Wind. However, through months of financial
and strategic restructuring, the company seems back on track to grow
alongside the promising Indian renewable energy sector.
Suzlon Energy recently announced that it had surpassed
2 GW installed wind energy capacity in the western state of
Maharashtra. The power generated every year from the around 1,900 wind
turbines operational in the state is enough to power around 1.2 million
households, and offsets greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to 4.3
million tonnes of carbon dioxide.
The company has entered solar power project development as well, and
has been actively participating in competitive auctions under various
state solar power policies. Chairman Tusli Tanti also announced recently
that the company is working on India’s first offshore wind energy project of 600 MW capacity in Gujarat.
