Vestas receives 40 MW contract for wind project in India

Vestas has received a firm and unconditional order to provide 40 MW worth of turbines to a wind power plant being developed in India. The Khambaliya wind power project in Gujarat State, India, will make use of 20 of Vestas’ V110-2.0 MW turbines — the latest in Vestas’ 2 MW platform, and perfect for the low-wind area of Gujarat. The order is an extension of an existing contract with Powerica, a new rising star in the Indian power solutions market.

Therefore, the 40 MW worth of Vestas wind turbines will be split accordingly — 12 MW for upgrading a previous order for turbines with the V100 platform, and the remaining 28 MW as a new addition to the project. “This contract with Vestas will enhance our wind power portfolio,” said Naresh Oberoi, Chairman of Powerica. “Vestas is a trusted partner and we will continue to work with them to expand this relationship even more.”

“We are strengthening our operations in India, and this order confirms we are on the right track and making good progress,” aded Jorn Hammer, Head of Vestas India. “We look forward to working with Powerica to deliver a top-performing wind energy power plant.” Vestas will provide supply, installation, and commissioning of the turbines, as well as a five-year service contract. Completion of the project is expected for the second quarter of 2016. The announcement is one of an ever-increasing number of new renewable energy projects being developed in India, especially in light of the country’s new target of increasing renewable energy capacity up to 175 GW by 2022 — up from its current 30 GW capacity.
