Chinese solar energy major Hareon Solar has announced first steps
towards setting up a large solar cell production facility in India. Hareon Solar has announced
phase 1 of the planned 1 GW production facility for solar PV cells in
India, and plans to set up a production line of 160 MW in the first
phase which would be operational by mid-2016.
The production facility would be established in partnership with
India’s Dalmia Group. The production line will not only allow Hareon to
supply product to the rapidly growing Indian solar power market, which
has a target to have 100 GW installed capacity by 2022, but also export
Indian-made cells to other countries like the US and the European
Union, where Chinese companies have been facing countervailing duties.
Hareon Solar recently signed an agreement
with an Indian renewable energy independent power producer, ReNew
Power, to supply solar modules for a 72 MW project in the southern
Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, and will also make an investment in to
the solar power project. Over the last few months several international solar module
manufacturers have announced plans to set up solar cell and module
production lines in the India. The Indian solar power market is
promising to be a high growth market, with the country planning to have an installed solar power capacity of 100 GW by 2022.
