Spanish wind energy behemoth Gamesa has announced it has been awarded a supply contract for 100 MW of wind turbines in India. Announced on Thursday,
Gamesa revealed that it would supply 50 of its G97-2.0 MW class S
turbines, which are specifically designed for the low wind speeds common
in the Indian market, to the Dhar wind farm, set to be located in the
Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.
The Dhar wind farm is being developed by Hero Future Energies, one of
India’s leading independent power producers, and is looking to conclude
construction and commission the wind farm by March 2016. This latest contract continues the solidification of Gamesa as one of
India’s premiere wind energy OEM’s, with a 25% market share in 2014,
and close to 2,100 MW of installations in the country since its initial
arrival back in 2009.
Gamesa has continued to expand its range, moving not only into India,
but into markets all around the world. The Spanish energy giant is now
one of the leading energy developers in South America. In June, Gamesa inaugurated a new 640 MW nacelle factory
in Brazil, which is intended to supply all 2.0 MW and 2.5 MW platform
turbines for the Brazil wind energy market. In fact, Brazil is one of
Gamesa’s target countries, with several hundred MW worth of orders made
in the country over the last 18 months.
A month later, Gamesa was awarded a 70 MW wind energy order
for another South American country, Uruguay. The country’s state
utility, UTE, placed an order with Gamesa for the supply, construction,
and maintenance of the 70 MW Valanetines wind energy project, set to be
commissioned in the third quarter of 2016. This, in addition to the
existing 150 MW capacity currently installed in Uruguay, and another 170
MW already under development.
