Yukon government exploring hydropower project development

The Yukon Development Corporation has received a directive from the territory's government to conduct research and planning on hydroelectric power generation. The exercise is intended to identify potential partners and options for the location and financing of new hydropower plants in Yukon.

"A substantial increase in Yukon's power supply will be necessary over time to foster responsible and sustainable economic development in the territory," Minister Scott Kent said. "Hydroelectric power will meet this demand and ensure Yukon's power supply is from a clean, affordable source." YDC will submit a written work plan to the Yukon government that will then be evaluated for development.
